Stone restoration in Hampstead
Hampstead's mix of Arts and Crafts houses, Victorian villas, post-war modernist homes and prime new-build developments gives NW3 one of the widest stone vocabularies in London. We restore marble kitchen worktops in Heath-side villas, travertine bathrooms in 1960s and 1970s family homes, original terrazzo floors in Edwardian apartment buildings around Hampstead Heath, and increasingly large-format honed limestone in contemporary garden-room extensions. The brief shifts substantially between an 1880s Norman Shaw villa and a 2022 architect-led rebuild, and we treat them as different projects.
Our NW3 workload typically falls into four patterns. Original terrazzo restoration in older properties, including crack stitching, chip fills matched to existing aggregate, and a hand-polish that respects the patina rather than erasing it. Kitchen worktop refinishing on Calacatta, Carrara and honed French limestone, where wine, citrus and oil have left etch rings around hobs and prep areas. Bathroom and en-suite refurbishment on travertine and honed limestone, lifting hard water staining and refilling missing fill across older floors. And exterior limestone weathering work, particularly on porticoes, steps and entrance pilasters that have suffered moss, lichen and freeze-thaw damage from Hampstead's exposed elevation.
The practical protocol matters here. Hampstead streets are often narrow, parking is tight, and many properties sit in conservation areas with strict noise and waste rules. We run a small in-house crew, full diamond dust extraction, breathable sealers compatible with older non-vapour-barrier substrates, and we schedule around school hours when working in family homes near Hampstead's primary and prep schools. Marius is on every NW3 job in person.
We are fully insured (£2M public liability, £10M employers, Hiscox) and carry the certification set required by Hampstead conservation officers and managing agents. Local references available on request.
